We all know that if you want to create the perfect Instagram feed that appeals to your audience and encourages engagement, you need to spend a lot of time and effort sourcing images, chatting with other users, spending time on your DMs, creating stories and using the right hashtags etc.
It can all become a bit much though can’t it? BUT what if there was a way to save yourself some time using Instagram so you can focus separately on posting and the engagement / people aspect rather than everything at once?
Well there is. Step forward Planoly.
What is Planoly?
Planoly is a visual planner and social media scheduling tool for Instagram users. It allows users to:
- Plan their feed with a drag and drop feature
- Schedule visual content and captions
- Create groups of hashtags for your posts
- Create and schedule stories for you profile
- Track your analytics
- Manage your comments
- Auto post the content from your grid when you ask it to.
Planoly is currently one of my favourite tools to use for Instagram – I’ve been using it for a few months and not only has my engagement on my posts increased, but I feel like my Instagram is easier to manage than ever before.
How much does Planoly cost?
One of the things that really attracted me initially was the fact that Planoly offers a free version. Yep you heard me – you can use it for FREE. Once I tested the free version I was in a good position to make the decision to upgrade to a paid version.
So there are a few different versions you can pay for.
- Solo for $7 per month
- Duo for $15 per month
- Squad for $79 per month
- Team for $159 per month

How I use Planoly to create the perfect Instagram feed.
As you’ve probably already realised, I’m a big fan of Planoly. Here are some of the ways I use it to create the perfect feed to fit in with the theme of my brand.
I use it to plan my theme
This is definitely my favourite aspect of the tool. You can easily see your grid so you can visually plan your theme carefully day after day.
As you can see from the desktop screenshot below, I have a very clear theme / pattern on my Instagram that I like to maintain so being able to see it in front of my face every time I login and be able to easily upload, drag and drop posts to where I want them to be placed is a real benefit for me.
The left hand side of the screen allows me to see all of my uploaded content – scheduled or not – and the right hand side is where I can plan dates and times for posts to be posted onto my profile.
I use it to schedule my posts
Since I’ve started using Planoly, I’ve scheduled posts to my profile on a daily basis – using both the desktop and the app on my phone. What I do is I allocate time every Tuesday (the day I put aside every week for creating content) to create visuals, write captions and schedule my posts for the coming week.
All I do is:
- Upload my graphic
- Write my caption
- Add my hashtags
- Choose a day and time for posting
- Press schedule
And just like that it’s ready to go.
I use it to measure my Instagram performance
If you’re the same as me, you’ll think that the Instagram app isn’t amazing when it comes to offering metrics. Yes it offers a weekly breakdown for business profiles, but it’s not always very helpful.
Planoly has an Analyze section of the site where you can find out things like:
- Likes received
- Followers – gains, losses etc
- Average likes per post
- Comments per post
Best of you all choose the timeframe for your metrics – a week, a month, a quarter or a year –
Whatever timeframe you like. It’s very user friendly to decipher as well, so even if you’re not numbers orientated (I’m certainly not) you can still understand the metrics and what it means for your brand.
I use it to share content from other users and access stock images
This is a great feature. Not only can you see what other users are posting by searching hashtags (and share them on your profile if you want to), you can also search stock images and use them as posts.
This will help you connect with other users and start building your own community on Instagram.
My final thoughts …
Planoly is a great tool for keeping you active on Instagram, but for me it helps me be more focused when using it to promote my business. I spend time on a Tuesday creating and scheduling posts so the rest of the week spent on Instagram is very much me responding to comments, getting involved in conversations and posting stories in real time.
Being more organised with my time on the platform takes the pressure off and has made Instagram a fun place to be for me again! It has also helped me make sure my activity is consistent and that the feed I create is the perfect one for my brand.
